" Why we don't sell beeswax foundation "

As part of an Integrated Pest Management stategy it is recommended to
swap out your foundation/comb from your hives every three years. By doing
so it is suggested that any residual chemicals in the beeswax that might
cause mite resistance be minimized. But what of the source of the " new "
beeswax foundation ? If beekeepers were to send their contaminated beeswax
to the companies that make foundation , then all the beeswax foundation would
be contaminated. And then there is the cost to replace the foundation. By
using plastic foundation , the comb can be scraped off every three years and
the foundation put back in the hive without replacement costs or fear of
contamination from an unknown source. The beeswax could be sold to candle
makers , or used for other purposes , thus breaking the cycle of contamination.
